New sponsor: CB5

We are very proud to announce that with the start of 2021, we can add CB5 as our new sponsor to the VIA Urbanism community. CB5 is a design office with two branches in Maastricht and Oosterhout (both NL), working on spatial designs projects ranging in scale from urbanism, landscape and architecture. We are looking forward to a close collaboration and inspiring activities together with CB5. With the following text, CB5 introduces itself to VIA Urbanism and its relatives;

‘’Designing is a passion that you can’t get enough of. In fact, wherever you are, you can see the beauty of landscape, history and architecture in conjunction with everyday life. Architects and designers are at the service of society: They play for the audience and, together, are prepared to perform a beautiful concert, called the City,’’ – (BURO5, 1989)

After more than 30 years this is still the foundation of CB5. Now more than ever.

The designers at CB5 strive for a design that gives meaning. A design that offers spatial quality and maintains a dialogue with its environment. It all starts with a broad analysis of the conditions. Resulting in a strong conceptual thinking and evolving towards a realistic and constructible design.

CB5 works at multiple levels of design. Ranging from architecture to urban design and landscape architecture, but always with close focus on the city and its densification. We believe that collaboration between different design disciplines is the key to creating meaningful and profound designs. For the residents, for everyday life, and for the city.

Examples of some of our interdisciplinary and multi-leveled projects are: Smariuskade, Tilburg (NL), Masterplan Westbank Panama, Panama (PAN), and Masterplan ‘t Eilandje, Antwerp (BE).

Development-Perspective 2040 Center Eindhoven

PosadMaxwan works on healthy, sustainable and smart cities. We do this by combining research, strategy, design and the implementation of it. We identify current challenges, ask relevant questions and come up with new spatial answers.

Together with the municipality of Eindhoven, PosadMaxwan recently created a Development-Perspective to steer the growth of the center in the right direction and at the same time increase the health, accessibility and quality of life. Between 2020 and 2050, Eindhoven will grow by a quarter of the city in terms of housing and residents. The city has everything it needs to compete with important (European) urban regions in terms of economic competitiveness, vitality and an attractive business climate.

The Development-Perspective formulates an overarching vision and tactical choices for the densification and growth of Eindhoven center. This offers guidance for the future on themes such as climate adaptation, health and mobility. For the Development-Perspective, PosadMaxwan has integrated the existing studies and plans for the enlarged city center, Emmasingelkwadrant and Internationale Knoop XL.

With so many challenges and choices, it is important to create a spatial assessment framework that allows administrators to make decisions in dialogue with residents and stakeholders. That is why PosadMaxwan has also developed a dashboard with which the municipality of Eindhoven can test projects in a 3D GIS environment for their contribution to the overarching vision and ambitions.

Opening Industrieplein Hengelo

The new design of Buro Lubbers for the “Industrieplein” at the back of Hengelo station transforms the place from a grey and desolate square into an attractive green space. The square now accommodates for various users and functions. In the center, a skatepark is located, surrounded by biodiverse butterfly- and bee-attracting greenery. The old stream has been made visible again, partially covered by a grid that shows the history of the Industrieplein. With bicycle parking, a taxi stand, Kiss&Ride parking spaces, and traversing walking routes the square has become a new junction next to the station. A green connector in the city.
